Google unveils new DoubleClick exchange

The offices of Google in Seattle, Washington, US. Google has revamped its DoubleClick Ad Exchange in a bid to further challenge Yahoo's share of online display ads.
San Francisco: Google unveiled a new advertising exchange that draws on its search prowess to challenge Yahoo's grip on the market for online display ads.

The new DoubleClick Ad Exchange introduced on Thursday is the first major overhaul of the system since Google acquired DoubleClick for more than $3 billion (Dh11 billion) in March 2008.

It represents a key plank in Google's plan to supplement its market-leading business of serving text-based ads alongside web search results with the more visual, graphical ads that appear on websites - a market dominated by online rivals Yahoo and Time Warner's AOL.
