Since their defeat in the Bernabeu, Unai Emery’s side has not been beaten by any team and currently lies in the 3rd place in this year’s league classification. Valencia has summed up 11 consecutive game days without losing and will host Barca in their best time of the season, on the fields of the great Mestalla.
A great game in the Camp Nou
Valencia visited Barca in their stadium in mid-October during the first part of the season. And they played an extraordinary game certified with a goal from Pablo Hernández. Barca, however, beat Emery’s men in the second part thanks to goals of Puyol and Iniesta.
December 4, 2010. This date has meant a turning point forValencia. A before and an after. That day Valencia lost at the Bernabeu. A controversial match, with the expulsion of Albelda which resulted in the victory of the Madridistas back then. The defeat was the team’s fifth and Emery’s side was placed six points behind Villarreal.
Since then Valencia has been growing and reaches the match against FC Barcelona in a magnificent state of form. After three months in which they never lost in the league.
27 points from a possible 33
Valencia adds to the 11 days without losing in the league, 27 points which have catapulted them to the third position, 4 points ahead of Villarreal and 11 ahead of the fifth-placed Espanyol, with qualification for the Champions League almost secured.
They overcome the adversities
Juan Mata is the lighthouse of the team and the team is having good moments with Joaquín, Pablo Hernandez and Soldado playing well. Emery, however, is lacking an important player, Aritz Aduriz. In addition, he has managed to overcome difficult times and has been around a winning result in Anoeta (Real Sociedad’s Stadium), the Calderón (Atletico de Mardrid’s Stadium) and San Mamés (Athletic Bilbao’s Stadium) on Sunday.
