"Samnaum Por Choun Kimoon & Clinton" Poems in Khmer by a Group of Poets
Request to Ban Ki-moon and Clinton
Translated from Khmer by P.U.
1- The great big sound to rouse the world/ all Khmer men and women join hand in hand
to stand up and protest at this crucial time/ during the significant 19th anniversary of PPA.
2- The Paris Accords have been breached/ Yuon-Sen have been violating Khmer people,
to endless suffering Khmer wail out/ to the meeting that gathered many signatory countries.
3- Mr Ban Ki-moon will be coming/ to pay a visit to Cambodia in the next few days,
He wants to see everything in the country/ so will Mrs Hillary in the near future.
4- As a woman like [SRP MP Mu] Sochua/ I'll avail this opportunity to file my reports,
on the human right abuses and wrongdoings/ which have been committed for years.
5- Khmer private properties are targeted/ the rich have inflict suffering on the poor,
Hun Sen’s regime gave out land concessions/ allowing Vietnam to violate our law.
6- They evict people from their home/ if the people refuse, they would be arrested and charged,
They divide and rob Khmer land just like killing them/ the court simply adopts the laws of jungle.
7- I wish to send my voice through my pen/ and list all my grievances and anger,
to Mr Ban Ki-moon and Mrs Hillary Clinton/ and asking them to be our witnesses and legal bodies.
8- The Paris Agreements are our basis/ to assist Khmer people with all the abused cases,
and to help us free from the Vietnamese's grip/ not let them grab us and destroy everything.
9- You two have great influence/ Please use your diplomatic skill and power,
To oppose Hun Sen's extreme and dictatorship/ and stop his aggression to devastate his people.
10- Ban Ki-moon’s trip to Cambodia/ is like a beam of moon shining from the sky,
as it coincide with Mrs Clinton’s visit/ Khmer people are very hopeful for a change.
11- Mrs Clinton, when you’ll visit Angkor Wat/ please assist Khmer people with
our democracy/ so that we may stand firm and sturdy like yours.
12- Mr Ki-moon, please pull us up/ to new height out of sight,
unlike Akashi who left us behind/ because you' re in a very prominent position.
13- Khmer people welcome both of you/ to help us find a better and effective way
with your compassion/ please guide us to change for a better future for Cambodia.
14- Your visits are marked in our history/ they both take place in October/
Just like caring parents, you dropped by/ so our people could bring their complaints
against Sihanouk, Yuon and Hun Sen.
15- Both of you will see directly/ you will realize their treacheries,
You will see how people suffer/ as the Yuon lead Hun Sen with the aim of swallowing Cambodia.
16- Please help to put pressure on Hun Sen/ Prevent him from creating trouble on the people,
whose rights have been trampled/ while Cambodia borders are being encroached.
17- Freedom of speech/ has been severely breached,
Freedom of press are deprived, the truth are hidden/ for fear of the dictator.
18- Please accept Khmer petitions/ as they explain in details our plight,
Please raise these complaining issues/ at the United Nations’ hearing session.
19- The UN chief comes to Cambodia/ Please help correct without delay,
Cambodia’s laws are now very tight/ they only serve the interest of the dictator.
20- We want democracy/ But the dictator prevent us from getting it by using violence
He does not respect his promises/ his determinations to rebuild the society.
21- The dictator only uses threats and killings/ He uses his power to arrest and jail people,
Our Nationalists insist and demand/ begging you to please bring change.
22- As to freedom rights/ Please clearly see the misdeeds,
